Position: Loans Manager
Reports To: General Manager
Office Location: Calgary, Alberta
Position Summary:
Indian Business Corporation finances First Nations viable, profit-driven personal and
business ventures. The Loans Manager plays an important role by managing a client
base in an assigned territory within Alberta. The main goals are to effectively manage
each account by setting up new loans, expanding the client base, regularly visiting with
clients onsite and ensuring client accounts are paid on time. The Loans Manager abides
by IBC's Code of Conduct at all times, as well as its Privacy and Human Resources
Policies.
Scope and Working Relationships
Reporting directly to the General Manager and working within the scope of IBC's
Lending Policy and Operations Procedures, the Loans Manager manages and is responsible for his/her accounts with limited supervision. All aspects associated with the
Loans Manager's scope are his/her responsibility.
At the discretion of the General Manager, the Loans Manager may be assigned an
account approval lending limit of up to a maximum of $50,000.
Loans within the Loans Manager's responsibility are between a minimum of $2,500 and
a maximum of $500,000.
The Loans Manager manages positive business relationships through regular liaison
with his/her clients, who are First Nations ranchers, business owners, and, at times,
various Nations. The manager must be able to handle stressful situations.
Major Responsibilities
- Seek new account opportunities
- Establish new loans and assist clients in the process
- Ensure due diligence by having all required documentation reflect each client's true
financial situation, as well that it is secured and completed in detail for loan approval
- Conduct at least two onsite visits per client annually
- Answer all client inquiries in a knowledgeable and timely manner
- Work with each client to ensure each loan is repaid in a timely manner
- Manage repayment of all loans in arrears in a timely manner, consulting with the
General Manager as required
- Coordinate process for uncollectible loans
- Prepare accurate, detailed reports and maintain up-to-date, complete client files
- Community Engagement
- Reposes where and when required
- Business Support and Follow-up
- Administrative Support when required
Travelling by car to, within, and from the assigned territory takes a fair amount of time.
Some overnight stays may be necessary. A company vehicle, cell phone, and camera
are provided for this position.
Onsite visits take place year-round and are mostly outdoors in rural settings. They
involve equipment and livestock inspections and photography. The visits ensure
collateral is up to date and coordinate land lease payments. The Loans Manager will
ensure livestock are in the livestock alert system and coordinate payment from auction
houses.
The Loans Manager will assist with calculating provisions, collecting emergency loan
payments, conducting sales, and making loan promises. The Loans Manager will also
develop an understanding of grants offered to clients. The Loans Manager will
correspond with collection agencies, repossess equipment, and fill out consumer proposal documents. The Loans Manager will sell life insurance and coordinate with
the life insurance company.
When working on IBC's premises, the Loans Manager is assigned a comfortable
individual office within a small office environment with all the necessary equipment to
produce reports and perform other office-related duties.
Required Skills & Education
- Understanding of the First Nations of Alberta and of First Nations; culture and system of governance
- Knowledge of the evaluation process for security (vehicle or otherwise)
- Knowledge of banking procedures and processes with regard to loans
- Working with honesty and integrity
- Possessing a valid drivers license
- Ability to organize and document with attention to accuracy and detail
- Ability to problem-solve, work independently and resolve conflicts that might arise
- Taking initiative and communicating in a professional and business-like manner
- Familiar with Microsoft Office (preferably Microsoft Office 7): Outlook, Word, Excel, as
well as the ability to learn IBC-related computer programs
- Graduated with minimum post-secondary certificate or diploma, with years of experience in a related field
